Spazio recommends: Fazal Sheikh – THE ERASURE TRILOGY

I came across the work of Fazal Sheikh a few years ago while absently strolling around the galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I don't remember what the show was about, I just remember his three photographs from the Desert Bloom series hanging close to the exit door in gallery 851 (photography). I remember looking at those images of the Negev desert for a while and then writing down the name of the artist.
Certain photos open up new worlds. For me this was the case with the images by Fazal Sheikh. Check out the ERASURE Trilogy as well as the essay by Eyal Weizman in The Conflict Shoreline: Colonization as Climate Change in the Negev Desert, recently published by Steidl Verlag.
